Generate an invoice: three ways, ranked by speed
There are three ways to generate an invoice: forward the client’s email to a service that extracts the details and generates it for you (≈60 seconds, includes a payment link), fill in a free browser-based generator and download the PDF (≈3 minutes, no signup), or run it through invoicing software you’ve already set up. The right choice depends on one thing: where the invoice’s details currently live.

What a generated invoice must contain
However it’s generated, the document needs the same seven fields — your identity, the client’s, a sequential number, issue and due dates, line items, a total with tax broken out, and payment instructions. Generators differ in how many of those they handle for you: a form generator does the math and layout; a generation service also handles numbering, branding, the payment link, and the paid/unpaid state. The catch with form-based generators
They’re genuinely free and genuinely fast — but every invoice starts from a blank form. The details you’re typing already exist in the email where your client agreed to the work. Re-typing them is the entire cost of the form approach, and it’s the step email-forwarding removes: the extraction reads client, line items, rates, currency, and terms out of the thread and generates the invoice from that. After payment, a receipt goes out automatically.
